Erwin A. Alpern founded Uneek Concepts,
LLC in 1992.
Mr. Alpern was a lawyer in Washington DC for many years. He
fought a long battle with Multiple Sclerosis until his death in April 2002.
As he fought MS, his chief complaint was the loss of
independence while in bed. The choices at the time were either a hospital
bed or a standard bed which would require a caregiver’s assistance to
adjust positions while in bed and aid getting in and out of bed.
Mr. Alpern felt the need to achieve and enjoy a higher level of independence
than what was being offered from “assisted living products” in the marketplace. Determined to maintain his independence for as long as possible Mr. Alpern developed the Uneek Bedrail System, with the help of his brother, an engineer, as well as several physical therapists.
